So, as well as the new job, new condo, and other million things that I have going on. Another reason why I have been such a poor blogger is because I have been struggling with some health issues. I am not going to go into the details besides saying that my doctor seems to believe that I have food allergies to diary and most likely meat. So.. I have been thinking very seriously about going vegan in order to feel better.
When I talk about it with people, I mostly get discouragement. Most people tell me not to try.. or just cut out dairy or just cut out meat. But, my health problems are severe enough that I believe it would be the wisest course of action to cut out all meat and dairy and then maybe after I am feeling better for awhile, add things one at a time to see if they are not actually what I am allergic to.
Lactose intolerance seems to run in my family, so that is why it is likely that I also have an allergy to diary. But, I believe that the meat allergy might not actually be an allergy. You see, for two years, a couple years ago, I was a vegetarian.. well pescaterian.. I ate fish. Since I went back to eating meat again I realized that I had a much harder time stomaching it. I get sick a lot and I have a lot of stomach pain.
So, I am feeling inspired to make a change. To just jump off the cliff and hope it is the miracle cure. I am going to try to quit meat and dairy and instead choose my foods based on what my body needs to be strong. So please, I don't want to hear you tell me I can't... if you don't have anything positive to say, keep it to yourself.
As a closing note, since I have been looking into this, I have researched some blogs. Here are two that are inspiring to me at the moment. Vegan Wifestyle and The Healthy Hippie.
Have a great Wednesday!
Uh sister I feel your pain. I've been struggling with health issues for years. I don't eat gluten anymore but still am really sick. I'm excited for you!! Portland is a great place to do this too. I have lots of friends trying it out and they say it's not as hard as everyone says!! If you're passionate about it, you'll be successful!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what crazy people you've been talking to, but I think it's a great idea and that you totally can do it! It was so easy being a vegan when I was living at home [eating on campus makes it a tad more difficult]! Once I'm living off campus, maybe I'll start on this path with you! I'll just have to find some vegan ice cream... :]
ReplyDeleteShannon! It's so hard to make huge life style changes to your food habits. If it's any encouragement, I have cut out dairy completely, feel great, and I don't find it that hard to stay away from it. I allow myself a bite of dessert or a bite of something cheesy when we go out to eat. You can do it!
ReplyDeleteYou should watch Forks Over Knives, this documentary will DEFINITELY help you commit to a plant-based diet. Although I do suggest adding some Copper River Salmon in :)
ReplyDeleteThe soy chorizo from trader joes is deeelish!
ReplyDeleteGo for it! It's amazing how diet, exercise, health, and emotional happiness are tied together. I wish you the best of luck trying out being a Vegan. My Aunt & Uncle are gluten & dairy free and they love it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the Shout-out Shannon! I write the blog Vegan WifeStyle and enjoy your blog as well.
